Prairie Aurora Vase Carving
This is the complete carving of Prairie Aurora, a vessel made from Manitoba maple. The video follows the work from start to finish — not as a lesson, but as a record of decisions. I talk through the material as it reveals itself, the tools as they’re chosen, and the design as it slowly takes shape. Nothing is rushed, nothing is cleaned up for the camera. Think of this as standing in the corner of the studio, listening to the thoughts that normally stay unspoken while the wood decides what it wants to become. This piece was carved by hand, responding to grain, tension, and surprise as they appeared. If you’re interested in full builds, real process, and the judgment behind each cut — you’re in the right place.
If there is any part that seemed confusing, or missing, please let me know,. I do this for you. Yes, you personally. I love carving and I want to help as many people as I can find the same joy I have found in this process, so please don’t hesitate to let me know how I can get better at helping you.
