Sculptural Vessel - Bound
This piece is carved from applewood gifted by a tree surgeon… wood known as much for its beauty as for its tendency to crack while drying. And crack it did. Rather than discard it, the ends were removed and reshaped using deerskin leather, in a gesture inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi: repairing damage not to hide it, but to honour it.
The result is a vessel suspended in tension: part cradle, part bridge. The squared geometry adds weight and intention, while the leather lacing creates a tactile rhythm between strength and softness.
It’s an object that holds space for both breakage and repair.
A sculptural form.
A conversation starter.
A tribute to holding things together in new ways.
