Sculptural Vessel - Maple Kintsugi
This vessel began as a storm-damaged Manitoba maple, salvaged from St. Boniface. I carved the form from a section that seemed stable… but as it dried, the wood had other plans. Large cracks opened on each end. Instead of hiding the imperfection, I honoured it.
The crack was cleaned and laced with leather cord, binding the form back to shape.
Inspired by kintsugi, this piece tells a story of healing through contrast:
Hard grain and soft leather. Rupture and repair.
A sculptural vessel. A conversation piece. A reminder that strength is found not in flawlessness, but in what holds together anyway.
