Wabi-Sabi Series - Faultline #1
This vase was carved from applewood, generously donated by a tree surgeon. The form is simple and soft, but a long fracture once ran through its heart. Instead of hiding it, the break was filled with brass … a nod to the Japanese art of kintsugi, where repair is honoured, not erased.
The interplay between wood and metal is subtle but striking. The applewood is soft, shifting in tone from honey to ember. The brass is bold and luminous … rigid where the wood is curved, cold where the wood is warm. And yet, they don’t fight. They finish each other.
It’s a piece about healing made visible.
About how even what breaks can be made stronger.
