Teardrop Series - Applebite
This sculpture is carved from the same Charleswood oak as Cracked Oak … a backyard tree brought down by storm damage, destined for firewood until I stepped in to salvage what I could.
This piece takes the familiar teardrop form and gives it a deeper scoop. I was playing with the form to see how much I could remove, while still keeping the spirit alive.
The cracks were filled not with resin or metal, but with applewood dust. A gentler gesture. Subtle, natural, and warm. That union of one tree’s fracture with another’s remains speaks to the quiet ways we hold each other up.
It’s a piece about gentleness, balance, and the beauty of leaning into imperfection.
Oak and Applewood dust. 9 inches.
