Flame Series – The Choreography of Escape
This sculpture is part of The Flame Series, carved from Ash salvaged from my neighbour’s yard in River Park South. The tree had been cut down and set aside for burning, but this piece was spared.
The form rises in two sweeping gestures: one curving, sharp like a flame caught mid-lash, the other reaching, twisting, soft and slow. A balance of movement and stillness, held just long enough to feel alive. I carved it by feel, letting the shape of the bough lead the motion.
Sometimes, slipping free from what was planned for you
is the only way to arrive somewhere beautiful.
Ash. 29 Inches.
